A 2024 release from Amouage, composed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour as part of The Essences collection, Reasons is built through the house’s signature six month oak-barrel infusion process to draw out every ingredient’s full potential. It opens with a roasted, nutty warmth of hazelnut, cardamom, cinnamon, and pink pepper, moves into a heart of pine, davana, cypriol, cashmeran, white amber, and patchouli, and settles into a dry, resinous base of palo santo, sandalwood, cedarwood, myrrh, vetiver, and oakmoss. The house frames it as an olfactory expression of cause and effect, the idea that though the past may be gone, its effects endure.
